Tim is a consultant within the Technology Risk Management practice of Kingston Smith Consulting. His degree is in theoretical chemistry, but he has worked in IT, information security management and IT audit for his entire professional career. He is experienced with IT security controls and regulatory compliance auditing including payment card industry standards (PCI), data privacy and security (including the ISO/IEC 27000 family of standards), network and perimeter security, third-party reviews, security policy development and implementation and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX). He has acted as Data Protection Officer in a number of firms, and is an authority on the European Data Protection Directive and subsequent legislation, as well as privacy-related regulatory frameworks worldwide. He has worked with business management to develop IT-related process improvement solutions, and gone on to manage the successful implementation of global projects and business initiatives.

Tim is a recognized subject matter expert on information security, data privacy and business continuity management and disaster recovery planning, and is regularly asked to present at conferences. He regularly receives exemplary client feedback on his engagements. He is well thought of and highly regarded amongst fellow practitioners, industry experts and business leaders. He is a co-author of two of the most prestigious and universally applied frameworks, namely COBIT and BS25999 (British Standard on Business Continuity Management). His professional qualifications include Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certificate of the Business Continuity Institute, Qualified Security Assessor (for the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) and Global Information Assurance Certification (Security Essentials).

Tim's interests outside of work include typography and music - from Gregorian chant to heavy rock. Practically he enjoys conducting choirs especially in unaccompanied Tudor sacred music, but alas seldom gets the opportunity these days. He also enjoys wine from Switzerland to Spain, and wearing out roads, having passed the advanced driving test both in a car and on a motorbike.
